About:

Dr. Barcohana specializes in the surgical and nonsurgical treatment of Spinal Disorders involving the Neck, Back, and Spine, utilizing Microsurgical and Minimally Invasive Techniques. Dr. Barcohana attended UCLA and graduated Phi Beta Kappa, Summa Cum Laude, with college honors earning a bachelor's degree in neuroscience.

After graduating from UCLA, Dr. Barcohana earned his medical degree from the University of California at San Francisco. While attending UCSF, he became interested in orthopedic surgery through his involvement in research in the field. After graduating from UCSF Medical School, he completed his internship in general surgery at UCLA.

Following his training in general surgery, Dr. Barcohana attended Stanford University where he completed his residency in orthopedic surgery. While at Stanford, he developed a passion for spinal surgery and the management of spinal disorders. As a resident, he continued to be involved in research and volunteer activities. During this time, he traveled to Nicaragua to provide surgical care to pediatric and adult patients with orthopedic disorders without access to medical care.

Dr. Barcohana has fellowship training in spinal surgery, completing his specialty training at Southern California Orthopedic Institute. In addition to gaining expertise in innovative surgical techniques, he specialized in complex spinal surgery involving the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. Subsequently, Dr. Barcohana joined the staff at SCOI. He has a special interest in minimally invasive techniques, which allow for shorter recovery times, reduced post-operative pain, less muscle injury, and a more rapid return to the normal activities of daily living.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Barcohana remains actively involved in education and research in the field of orthopedics and spinal surgery. Throughout the course of his career, he has published multiple scientific papers and has lectured extensively in the field. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, and the North American Spine Society.
